What Exactly is Lake Management?

If you live near a lake or pond or have visited one recently, you may have noticed algae or vegetation growing in the water, especially during the summer. When it’s hot outside, these aquatic plants can completely take over a pond, making it unsightly to look at or difficult to fish.

Why does this happen? Because every pond is a living ecosystem that varies from day to day and season to season. This is due to natural factors like the weather and erosion, or human factors like use of lawn fertilizers nearby that can flow into a pond after a rain, increase nutrients which help weeds and algae grow.

Lake management services can address these issues and improve the look and enjoyment of your lake or pond. Put simply, my process includes:

  1. Identifying the type of algae or vegetation species in the lake or pond
  2. Diagnosing the source of the cause — such as inflow, depth, weather
  3. Collaborating with the customer to determine the most desirable outcome
  4. Applying herbicides or algaecides to the nuisance species
  5. Waiting for 1-2 weeks for the vegetation to respond to the treatment and begin to break down in the water
  6. Re-treating throughout the season to address new vegetation as it appears

I’ll work with you one-on-one to determine the optimum management plan based on how you use your lake or pond, the vegetation that’s present, and the history of any recurring weeds or algae blooms. Learn more about my treatment approach.
